POY Standings: Everett Carlton surges to top
If you play poker in Minnesota and don’t know who Everett Carlton is yet, start taking notes.
After finishing 4th at the Minnesota State Poker Tour event at Grand Casino Mille Lacs last month, Carlton has followed up with a victory in the Running Aces $150 weekly POY tourney, and a 4th place finish in the Canterbury $200 event. Carlton earned over $4,000 combined for his efforts in the two tournaments, and he vaulted himself to the top of the Minnesota Poker Magazine Player of the Year race, ahead of both Jeremy Dresch and Dan Dow.
Geoff Hayes II and Darren Ficek are both tied for the most POY cashes with five apiece.

The Minnesota POY is a great idea and concept. But glaring absent from the POY eligible tournaments are the two HPT this year @ the Shooting Star Casino. More than likely these will be the second and third largest tournaments (both size and prize pools) in Minnesota in 2010 behind Canterbury’s Fall Classic. A true POY race should include all big tournaments in Minnesota.

I understand your thought process and we have thrown it around. The issue is that the HPT is now a National Tour brand with a national player base. Much like if the WPT or the NAPT rolled into town, we wouldn’t include that as POY either.
We tend to think of the HPT as local because they started in or around Minnesota but they have now branded themselves a national tour and they even state that specifically on their site in the “About HPT” page. Although we won’t be awarding POY points for HPT events we definitely support the HPT as they have done great things for poker in this area. I personally have enjoyed some great success in HPT events and enjoy playing in that atmosphere.

Hi, just wondering when the standings get updated…if it’s like a monthly thing or weekly?

Weekly, or sometimes more often.
