Is Online Poker Coming to American Tribal Casinos?

According to a report found at igamingbusiness.com, online casino software and games developer Atlantis Internet Group Corporation has signed a licensing agreement with Cake Gaming NV that will soon allow patrons in tribal casinos in over 30 US states to play poker over the Internet legally.

Cake Gaming operates one of the world’s largest online poker networks and the new deal will see Las Vegas and Harrisburg-based Atlantis Internet Group establish a private gaming network on aboriginal lands allowing tribal casinos to offer a form of the game across state lines.

The agreement follows a ruling from the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) on Atlantis Internet Group’s patent pending Casino Gateway Network technology and the American firm is now set to run the only poker network operating in more than one state simultaneously.

“Our Indian version of the Casino Gateway Network, called the Tribal Gaming Network, offers an immediate and legal solution to Indian casinos nationwide providing the largest online poker network in the US,” said Donald Bailey, Chief Executive Officer for Atlantis Internet Group.

“This is a significant milestone for Atlantis Internet Group and Cake Gaming and will become an immediate economical shot in the arm for tribes and states facing deficits nationwide.”

Atlantis Internet Group introduced its technology to the NIGC, which is the Federal agency that co-regulates all aboriginal casinos, in September of last year and received a favourable opinion meaning that it can now operate its network in all Indian casinos across the US. The Tribal Gaming Network allows players to participate over a private gaming network known as a wide-area progressive while on aboriginal lands.

“The NIGC’s opinion went on to state that, according to its bulletin on the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), our network works like a traditional aide-area progressive and, therefore, it is not considered as being illegal Internet gaming,” read a statement from Atlantis Internet Group.
